about me

I am a writer and marketing consultant actively dedicating my energy and expertise to improving vital connections between science and healthcare consumers, making issues of health and research more plain language and digestible. I was gifted a much higher dose of creativity than average and a passion for applying it to science and health. One of the unique projects I was involved in was editing a novel, A Summer With No Ice Cream, which weaves together Black culture and awareness about disparities in health issues such as diabetes, cancer, and HIV.
My passion and respect for writing was honed at The Madeira School for girls, where I learned to appreciate the classics. As a student at North Carolina Central University, I had become the quintessential grammar nerd who also reveled in all-things artistic. I made the Dean's List, majored in Biology (while taking as many art classes as I could fit in), and earned scholarships from the National Institutes of Health, the American Microbiology Association and the National Science Foundation. I spent my summers as an undergraduate fellow at Yale University, the University of Hawaii, and the Indian Health Service and ultimately graduated with honors. I later earned a Master of Public Health degree from Yale where I further explored my passion for health communications.
I enjoy freelance writing projects and manage Clinical Ambassador, a communications firm specializing in diversity, equity and inclusion in patient recruitment in the research and biopharma industries. I have been invited to speak before the FDA, the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA). I was listed in the PharmaVoice "100 Most Inspiring People" in 2012 and as a "Pharma Hero" by UBC in 2016. In 2018, the ACRP awarded my work to raise public awareness about clinical research. Recent projects have included content for focus groups, mock trial interviews, and in-depth online surveys about cultural distrust about medicine, clinical trials and vaccines. I serve on Medable's Patient Advisory Council (PAC) and am also a certified notary in the State of North Carolina.
